The swimming area close to the Chapmans Peak side of the beach is safe with a gentle gradient and seldom has dangerous waves or currents.

Bathing zone is situated by left hand corner (Chapmans Peak side) of Hout Bay Beach. The lifeguards will also patrol all along the beach informing the public to swim within the bathing area.
Hout Bay Surf Lifesaving Club
Lifesaving Clubs operate between 10:00 – 18:00 during Festive Season and Summer School holidays on Weekends (Saturdays from 14:00pm to 18:00pm/ Sundays from 10:00 – 18:00) and Public Holidays, COCT provides lifeguards during mid-week.
Receives assistance from NSRI when required and City Lifeguards when required
Dogs free-running in middle section of beach; no dogs on Chapman’s Peak sides and Mariner’s Wharf side
